A Rough Start

HamPuppy

The picture that started it all!

Everyone knows the beginning of life should be a simple time when one eats, sleeps, and poops. It’s not that I didn’t do those things (because I definitely did), but I had a little more trouble than most pups. I was birthed, brought to a shelter with all my brothers and sisters and we were all adopted at only a few months old by some loving persons to be brought to a new home to live happily ever after. My wonderful new Mom brought me to her house and I brought home a little virus called parvo. No one knew I had the virus then, but we soon found out something wasn’t right when any food and water started making me sick. The world started to seem like such a burden and I just wanted to sleep because I had never felt so miserable in all my months on Earth. An immediate trip to the animal hospital was in store. I don’t remember much from the hospital, but they say I was knocking on death’s door. The people there were very nice even though they poked me with sharp needles and pushed on my belly that was already hurting. I got a blood transfusion, a plasma transfusion and another blood transfusion just to keep my little heart ticking. And tick it did. And tick and tick and tick and tick! Two and half weeks later, I was on my way back home with Mom to really start my life. That was the best day ever…until the next one and then the next one and then the next one!
